How This Songbird became a Lovebird

If you’ve known me for more than five minutes, you’ll know I’ve never been very good at sticking to just one passion. Music, performance, planning, people — I’ve always had a full plate (and usually a microphone in hand).

It all started here in North Queensland, where I cut my teeth as a performer before heading south to study at the Queensland Conservatorium of Music, Griffith University. Those years taught me how to hold a stage, tell a story, and deliver a note with equal parts precision and heart. After graduating, I swapped the spotlight for the classroom, spending five years as a music teacher — guiding students, coaxing out shy voices, and learning that sometimes the best lessons happen between the bars.

Then came my curveball: Local Government. A hiatus from the arts that turned into a crash course in event management. One week I was welcoming new citizens, the next I was wrangling stage productions, soirées, protocol events, and the occasional expo (yes, even the ones with fluorescent lights and name tags). It was a different kind of performance, but it sharpened my skills in logistics, detail, and keeping calm when a hundred moving parts all want your attention at once.

Fast forward to maternity leave: late nights, baby cuddles, and — because I can’t help myself — a new challenge. I started studying to become an authorised marriage celebrant. Suddenly, it all clicked. My love for performance, my knack for storytelling, my event brain, my teaching patience, my community roots — it all belonged in the same place.

And so, Lovebird Sophie was born (well, re-born, really). A space where I get to bring together all of my favourite things: music, ceremony, planning, people, and now celebrancy. It feels like the perfect union.

I won’t pretend I’m not nervous — stepping out with all your passions on display is a little like opening night jitters. But it’s also thrilling. Because this isn’t just about me. It’s about giving North Queensland couples celebrations that feel personal, seamless, and unforgettable.

So here I am: part performer,

part planner, part celebrant, full-time mum, and all-in dreamer. And I can’t wait to share this new chapter with you.

With love, Sophie xoxo
